Q: What is one thing you have learned about your community since joining the Grants Allocation Committee (GAC)*?

Having recently become a part of GAC, I have been reminded that there are always those around us that have struggles and obstacles to overcome – some that we may not even be aware of or fathom happening in our own community. In Chester County, there are many truly amazing organizations that make an active and meaningful difference every single day for the women and girls in our community and they need access to the right resources and financial support to continue making a positive impact.

Q: What motivates you to give back?

One of my foundational beliefs and filters in all aspects of my life is the Golden Rule. As a mom of 2 amazing kids, my husband and I want nothing more than for them to continue growing into happy, kind, and strong human beings. We teach them that they should always be grateful for what they have… and that they should be equally as grateful for what they can do to help someone else.

Q: What is helping you through social distancing and quarantine?

These are definitely unprecedented times and like most people, I don’t have experience with social distancing and/or being quarantined at home for long periods of time. What has helped me so far is realizing that this is just a moment in time and I can either be frustrated by what I am currently unable to do or be grateful for the unexpected time I’ve been gifted with my family. That said, and as much as I love my kids, a good glass of red and watching something on Netflix with my husband after the kids have gone to bed is therapeutic upon itself – I highly recommend it! Stay safe everyone.

*GAC is made up of a diverse group of individuals connected to Chester County who wish to gain an in-depth understanding of needs within the county by engaging in the grantmaking process. All funding decisions are made by consensus. Although granting decisions differ every two years, recurring critical needs addressed include safe housing, job training, pre-natal health and infant care, domestic violence, food security, and education, among others. During the COVID-19 crisis, GAC members are looking to be responsive to pressing needs, while also supporting critical ongoing needs of women and girls in our communities. GAC is not accepting new members at this time.
